The Best Medicine
One quote has visited me often over the past 6 months. It's one that my heart longs to believe is true. Because it would change everything.
"Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food." -Hippocrates
What if we could really heal our bodies and minds with our food? What if we could prevent a multitude of illnesses, thereby vastly improving our quality of life by just altering out diet? Is it too good to be true?
What has specifically been coming to my attention is a plant based diet. Vegan. No animal products. It sounds a little bit terrible at first. No sushi, no fried chicken, no cheese, no bacon, and I could go on. But also, there's a possibility of gaining: more energy, better health, greater peace of mind. That sounds pretty good too.
Recently, I've read Rich Roll's book Finding Ultra (recommend) about a vegan athlete, watched the documentary What the Health on Netflix (highly recommend), and am currently taking a vegan cooking class in Seattle. So clearly, it's on my brain. I want to put my thoughts into action and see how my body reacts.
So tomorrow starts day 1 of a vegan diet. Deep breath.
