"The greatest threat to our planet is the belief that someone else will save it." -R. Swan
This quote certainly stopped me in my tracks. Why are we so quick to shift responsibility in something that we can all play a part? Why do I prefer the easy way over the best way? Why don’t I consider saving the earth as my responsibility when this is the very place I reside?
So what part do I play in sustaining our environment? How do I protect and honor this Earth that is so generous to me? The magical mountains that bring peace and joy while hiking in their midst. The trees that give sweet air to breath. The soil that provides a place to grow the foods that nourish me.
I do the small things like recycle and compost. I've begun to be intentional in purchasing clothes secondhand. But I really feel that I need to have a whole change in mindset, rather than a few behavior changes here and there. No longer mindlessly consuming with convenience as my guide.
I hope to be more mindful and aware of what my negative impact on the earth is. Then what things I can change in my everyday life to soften that impact. And finally, considering what things I could be doing to help repair the earth.
This certainly isn’t the easiest way to live, but it is the best way.
